Kona adds new environmental guidelines to bike park program

The Kona Bike Park Program is growing.
Fast. For 2009, the Kona Bicycle Company will establish an additional
five new bike parks throughout Europe and North America adding to its
current 21 parks. As always, Kona’s stance on providing increased
benefits to all of these resorts and their users is at the forefront of
establishing these new parks.

Early this year, Kona partnered with WWF, the world conservation
organization to create an important initiative: Environmental Bike Park
Guidelines.

Interbike’s OutDoor Demo East Has Successful First Year

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. - 
Amid off-road and road demo courses, bicycle manufacturers, retailers
and industry groups participated in two days of product demos, clinics
and networking during Interbike’s first regional demo event, OutDoor
Demo East, held October 21-22, 2008, at the Roger Williams Park in
Providence, Rhode Island.”In hosting our first regional demo-style
event, we had great support from exhibitors and strong attendance from
east coast retailers,” said Andy Tompkins, Interbike’s show director.

National Mountain Bike Oktoberfest

Charlotte, NC –
First-time racers, weekend warriors and pro-racers alike started their
days early for National Mountain Bike Oktoberfest, held October 24-26,
2008. While volunteers from Cowbell Challenge Inc.
finished checking and marking the courses At Fisher Farm Park in
Davidson, NC, and setting up to check in the racers, seasoned racers
began their pre-rides and first-time racers checked out the course and
asked tons of questions. Spectators and support crews found some time

Fort Lewis and Appy State take home Collegiate Mountain Bike Titles

Fort Lewis College narrowly surpassed host Lees-McRae College to win the Division I team omnium competition at the 2008 USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships. Even fewer points separated Division II champions Appalachian State University and second-place Colorado School of Mines. The top individual scorers in both endurance and gravity events were also awarded individual omnium crowns following Sundayandrsquo;s dual slalom contests.

Omnium contests tight heading into final race of Collegiate MTB

After strong performances in Saturdayandrsquo;s short track and downhill contests, only a pair of points separate Division I leaders Lees-McRae and Fort Lewis College in the team omnium competition heading into the final race of the USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships. The Division II field displayed an evenly disbursed depth of talent with six schools in contention for the omnium national title before Sundayandrsquo;s dual slalom competition.
